THE TADZEWU COMMUNITY WATER PROJECT THAT'S MEANT TO BE SLAUGHTERED AND DEVOURED BY MCE AVORGBEDOR ON ONE SIDE AND TADZEWU CHIEFS ON THE OTHER SIDE.

Wonders they say shall never end. I'm finding this anecdote very true at my mini-ripe age.

It's very clear that Karma is a very dirty bitch. What you give to Karma is exactly what Karma reserves and gives back in full measure.

The Tadzewu Community Water Project has suffered untold hardships, but it not being human, you aren't gonna hear, or won't hear its cries. It has now become our job to cry for the orphaned project, or at least to let the good citizens of Tadzewu know the chicanery and dirty clandestine moves by some actors to "steal" the project in broad daylight from the beneficiary community.

Yesterday, the 12th of October 2022, was the day HIS ROYAL MAJESTY MCE ANTHONY ABLORDE AVORGBEDOR'S TADZEWU COMMUNITY WATER BOARD was to be inaugurated. This means the attempts by EDWARD AVORNYO of EDCOM LTD and his brother the DUFIA TOGBUI EYAA II, ably supported by TOGBUI TENUKPO AZADAGLI III and TOGBUI AGBEVE AYIRIM II to impose an AVORNYO FAMILY WATER BOARD on the Tadzewu Dua has failed. Maybe the MCE knew about their selfish plans and decided to play the game too. 

Isn't it surprising that the same Togbuiwo should be crying foul that Anthony Avorgbedor is trying to impose a dubious Board on them? And that they won't accept its purported inauguration? What's good for the goose should equally be proper for the gander. Togbui Agbeve Ayirim II was on Fafaa Radio yesterday and trying hard to play the good guy. 

The Tadzewu Chiefs got a few of the Dumegawo and sat down to form a board after being advised by Edward Avornyo. Some uninvited community elders had their entrée frowned upon. You can see it from their body languages. You are not invited was locked up in their voiceless minds. And that was where it stood. The agenda kept rolling. And the chiefs had a criteria in mind. The saddest part was when they had the guts to disqualify one person based on their frivolous mindset that he had offered and campaigned to be elected as a Member of Parliament for the Ketu North Constituency before. Jeez, can you believe that? What manner of board were they forming? A cronies board of yesmen and women? And in the place of the rejected person, Doe Gbewoaza was proposed. He was also finally tossed out. This whole charade was being carried out by few Dumegawo and the chiefs. Some of us became mere onlookers because it will be foolish on our part to participate in an illegality. 

It was as if COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, STAKEHOLDERS PARTICIPATION AND INVOLVEMENT were principles the chiefs have never heard of before. To beat the gong-gong and summon the entire community to their meeting arena and ask them to choose their own representatives was an anathema to the holier than thought elders. Their childishly crafted agenda was thwarted when word came that Edward Avornyo of Edcom Ltd had been subpoenaed by the EOCO and finally charged for stealing. The Chiefs quickly abandoned their right to own and form a board to manage the project. Edward Avornyo was directed by the EOCO to HANDOVER THE TADZEWU COMMUNITY WATER PROJECT to the KNMA immediately. And he did without further prompting something he has rejected for FOUR SOLID GOOD YEARS. He had to deposit any funds under his control into a specialized account given by the authorities. To say his boastful nature got dissipated is an understatement. The Chiefs too got the message. The KNMA has taken over until the Tadzewu Community Water Board is put in place. This is where we're and the rumblings of dirty underground dealings are being felt, this time coming from the MCE AVORGBEDOR. 

The Royal Highness MCE Hon Anthony Ablorde Avorgbedor felt it's his time to dribble the community too as the Chiefs and Edward Avornyo planned.

The ability of the MCE Hon Anthony Ablorde Avorgbedor to single handedly sit in his office and put out a list and engage the Npp footsoldiers under his control to make his NPP partisan Board formation a reality beats my mind. Nine names on the list were known NPP activists and most claimed they weren't aware they have been penned for slots in the Board, except the Gadri guy from Agbevekorfe. And this is a 15 Member Board. The MCE chose the names even without consulting the Coordinator and the Tadzewu Assembly Member Hon Meli Attipoe. Avorgbedor pushed this dubious list out and expected the morons of the KNMA and Tadzewu Dua to accept it and do the bidding of His Majestic Honourable MCE Anthony Ablorde Avorgbedor without any hindrance. The uproar that threw eggs onto his face will forever be remembered. You don't think people are fools. Does he think it's a case of like minds? Then Tadzewu Community isn't made up of idiots. He's on his own. He shares the honor alone. 

Whose bidding was the MCE doing? Was it a devious agenda to control the private contracting of the business section? Has he got a debt to settle with the consultant? It's on record that the CEO of Edcom Ltd Edward Avornyo stated that he refused to handover the project to the KNMA, and also has disengaged himself from any business with the MCE and the Assembly because of the "DIRTY DEALS PLANNED, AND AGENDA THE MCE AND THE ASSEMBLY HATCHED TOWARDS THE TADZEWU COMMUNITY WATER PROJECT, AND HE WAS EXPECTED TO BE PART. So in trying to save the project from being "stolen from Tadzewu," he Edward Avornyo decided to manage the water alone and has been at it for four years now alone. Is Avorgbedor still trying to implement this socalled backdoor dirty business? Why not engage all stakeholders in forming the board? He had an agenda, and he's been defeated. This is shameful. 

The Chiefs of Tadzewu made matters worse from the very beginning. Edward Avornyo in trying to latch on to the project forever brought in his brother the Dufia Togbui Eyaa II to help hijack the project. Togbui Tenukpo Azadagli III and Togbui Agbeve Ayirim II became willing assistants. 

And again how Chiefs of Honor, knowing very well it's not in their place to sit in their rooms, and without the necessary community engagement, put out a list of names for the Tadzewu Community Water Board is another tale that you won't understand. 

The Chiefs were being advised by Edward Avornyo. He told them there's no need to go to the Assembly and that the water belongs to Tadzewu already. He said calling for a financial audit will be a waste of money. He told the chiefs they have the power to decide. The number of the board was pegged at minimum seven and maximum ten. The old staff, a request from Gakpabido was to be fixed somewhere. Edward's place was assured. No financial and systems was being planned. It was like the Chiefs now have the power to tell the KNMA that they've taken over so their business has ended. And they the Chiefs can manage the project from now on. What a sacrilege! What an abomination! What gave them such mindset to believe they have such powers can well be explained by them only. I don't get it.

As said earlier, the dubious Board the MCE planned imposing on Tadzewu Dua has been thrown out. The Honourable Assembly Member Meli Attipoe, Mr Elvis Nutornutsi and surprisingly the chiefs all joined hands with the petitioners to make this possible. A period is to be taken to sensitize the community and a date set for the community engagement leading to the FORMATION OF THE TADZEWU COMMUNITY WATER BOARD, and not a board for Avorgbedor, or a board for the Avornyo Family.

If the overall agenda is to skip the rendering of proper financial audit for the four years management of the project by Edward Avornyo, then pls somebody tell the MCE and the Tadzewu Chiefs that they have failed. 

We will never accept that scenario. As Togbui Agbeve Ayirim II was shouting yesterday that that Board Formation won't happen today or tomorrow, in our books too, no dirty deals will go through as far as the project is concerned.

THE MISRULE AND GANGSTERISM OF TOGBUI ADAMAH III. A STAIN ON THE LEGENDARY ADAMAH II LEGACY.

STATEMENT AND MESSAGE FROM THE ADAMAH ROYAL FAMILY, (AMUGADE AND HOR GATES) TO THE GOOD PEOPLE AND CHIEFS OF SOMÈ REGARDING  SOME ACTS AND OMISSIONS OF TOGBUI ADAMAH III WHICH HAS BEEN A SOURCE OF WORRY TO THE FAMILY AND THE COMMUNITY. 

First and foremost, the Adamah Royal House of Somè wishes to express their profound gratitude to God Almighty for granting the family grace, and making it possible for them to witness this day in peace. The family is grateful. 

The family also finds it expedient to render to the good people and chiefs of Somè their gratitude for being there for them throughout their history. The family deems it fit and appropriate at this early stage of this release to also render again our heartfelt apologies for the pain and misery the people of Somè have been going through at the hands of Togbui Adamah III. We're deeply sorry for all those happenings. Steps will be taken to stop the abuses being inflicted on our people. 

To the Fugonu communities that saw carnage and misery unleashed on them by the sea recently, we say we're sorry for the treatment meted out to you once again by Togbui Adamah III. 

To Fafaa Radio and the illustrious Duamenefa Foundation, its old members and the new applicants, we say "babaa nami." Our silence for this long period isn't something we're proud of. We could and should have come out earlier when the waywardness of Togbui Adamah III towards the family got out of hand, but caution was prayed for by some prominent Elder Citizens of Somè, thinking that there are better days to come with a change in behaviour of the young king. We tried as much as is humanly possible to cover up our shame and not wash our dirty linens in public, but we failed. We've failed the Somè Dua, and the family craves your indulgence. We will rectify everything that has gone wrong. 

We've crossed the proverbial Rubicon. 

Today it is not only the family which is at the mercy of the terrorist acts of Togbui Adamah III, but he has gone public against the very community that gave him the office and recognition. This shouldn't be the norm and there must be consequences for such aberrations by anyone, be it a king or a subject. Somè needs peace to thrive in business and education. That is the kind of society, with laws and rules, that the Adamah Royal House will encourage, not this deviant culture. Please bear with the family in these unfortunate moments in our history. There has been nothing like this before. 

Roadmap and The Council of Elders. 

The Adamah Royal House submitted a document to the Judicial Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs and which was duly accepted and became the Roadmap for the family. This document has a clause which created a 17-Member Council of Elders. ( That a seventeen member council of elders should be put in place made up of selected personalities from the two ruling gates, with Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and an Organizer. Their main objectives are, i. To serve as advisory council to the Makorsor or Paramount Chief. ii Foster and promote peace and unity in the Royal family. iii. Facilitate other interests of the Royal family as may be necessary.)

The document which is titled SOMÈ MAKORSOR ROYAL FAMILY STOOL ROADMAP TO FORESTALL CONFLICTS ON ELECTION AND INSTALLATION OF PARAMOUNT CHIEFS (MAKORSORS) FROM THE TWO GATES OF AMU AND HOR has a dedicated clause which clearly stated that the Head of Family of the Adamah Royal House should be the Chairman of the Council, and the Paramount Chief being only a Patron. This council is dormant today because of the interference of Adamah III and his insistence for attending every Council of Elders meeting and dictating issues. Naturally this posture of Adamah III wouldn't sit well with the Council members of which David Fianyor was the Chairman. Thus the very organ created to advise Togbui Adamah III was muted by him. He Adamah III therefore chose to listen to outsiders who were ready to tell him what he wanted to hear. No wonder the direction his behavior and character has taken. No obedient son would do the things he's been doing. He became friends with hoodlums whom he uses or deploys for his heinous crimes against the Duamenefa Foundation and the AmuGade Royal family. 

Selling of AmuGade Royal family lands

The corruption of Togbui Adamah III started with his fraudulent misrepresentation of himself as the Fometator - Head of Family - of the AmuGade Royal House of Tettekorfe-Adafienu. The AmuGade Royal House therefore once again wants Somè and Ghana to know that TOGBUI ADAMAH III, aka JULIUS ADAKU IS NOT THE HEAD OF THE AMUGADE ROYAL FAMILY. THE HEAD OF FAMILY IS NONE OTHER THAN MR FRANCIS KWASI GALLEY. 

It is therefore gone without saying that anyone who is dealing with Togbui Adamah III today, or has dealt with him in the past as far as the lands of the family is concerned, does so at his or her own risk since a Disclaimer was issued to that effect as far back as the 20th of September 2019. (Copy of Disclaimer attached). At the appropriate time steps will be taken to reverse any fraudulent dealings that took place between Togbui Adamah III and anyone or any business entity. 

Long before the AmuGade family Royal House issued a Disclaimer on the 20th of September 2019, and copied to all relevant stakeholders and state institutions including the Seven Seas Salt Company, Togbui Adamah III was secretly and dubiously selling the family lands. Some of those lands were taken back by the family and Togbui Adamah III was made to refund the monies to the people he duped. 

At the appropriate time redress will be sought at the law courts for full repossession of any stolen land sold by Togbui Adamah III. 

One of those lands Togbui Adamah III sold was a ten plot land belonging to his uncles, the Bakar Adaku family. The family quickly reclaimed the land from the unfortunate buyer. This didn't go down well with the recalcitrant king and he resorted to insulting his uncles. Zikpuitor Alfred Bakar of blessed memory was the very person whose instrumentality resulted in the choice of Mr Julius Adaku who became Togbui Adamah III, but he wasn't spared the insults. Togbui Adamah III childishly had to threaten that he had removed his uncle the Zikpuitor from his office as the Stool Father. This was someone who led the process of the yet proper installation as the Paramount Chief of the Somè Traditional Area. The Uncles swore at that time to abort the process of completing the installation and some of us had to travel to Lomè-Togo to kneel and beg on behalf of Togbui Adamah III. We didn't know then we are coming to be dealing with a human whose reasoning is not the norm with any decent human being. 

On the 23rd of August 2019 Togbui Adamah III brought a case against the Duse Anthony Family of Adafienu in his fraudulent and erroneous capacity as the "Head of Family of the AmuGade Royal House" at the court of Togbui Atsiane IV without the knowledge and consent of the legitimate Fometator Mr Francis Galley. 

At the first sitting the panel of arbitrators of which Togbui Atsiane IV was the presiding chief, told Togbui Adamah III that he is not the head of family known to the Somè Dua and so he should rather do the needful and make arrangements for the recognized Fometator Mr Francis Galley and the Fiafofo Nash Doe Adamah to represent the AmuGade Royal House. Changes were therefore made to the court documents and Mr Francis Galley assumed the plaintiff position in the case. The case was adjourned upon request from Mr Francis Galley.

 On the 24th of January 2020 the AmuGade Royal family with the Fometator Presiding, wrote a letter to the Togbui Atsiane court withdrawing the case for out-of-court settlement between the two families (copies of the letters attached here). This request was granted by the panel. 

Unknown to the AmuGade Royal House, Togbui Adamah III again clandestinely wrote a dubious letter to the Togbui Atsiane court replacing Mr Francis Galley,  and this Togbui Atsiane IV also wrongly accepted. Morality was being thrown to the dogs. The acceptance of the replacement coming from Togbui Adamah III to Togbui Atsiane was therefore illegal and an abuse of the process of law. This can only be the actions of two conniving immoral agents not attuned to the principles of the rule of law and fairness. 

The AmuGade Royal House therefore declared that any case involving the AmuGade Royal family and the Duse Anthony Family, not properly constituted and without the consent and knowledge of the legitimate Elders of the AmuGade Royal family is not sanctioned. Togbui Adamah III was doing all that to usurp the office of the Fometator so that he can sell the family lands without any hindrance and hesitation, and to enhance his nefarious actions of stealing family lands and desecrating the very long held customs of the family. 

His fraudulent and mischievous dealings with the Seven Seas Salt Company will be treated at another forum, and the family will make sure the legitimate Elders of the AmuGade Royal family represent the interests of the AmuGade Royal House. 

Fugonu Relief Items

The AmuGade Royal House wants to share the pain of the suffering folks of the recent sea destructions whose relief items were again greedily taken from them in a senseless and vindictive manner. That act can only come from a mindset that isn't noble. It is sheer wickedness on the part of Togbui Adamah III to go in for 50 bags of cement when those suffering the direct hits of the ravages of the sea received just a few bags each. The AmuGade Royal House disassociates itself from such chicanery. The family has no hand in such sacrilege. That was an act from a chief who has divested himself from all good counsel and had himself surrounded by hoodlums and criminals willing to cause havoc in Somè. 

Duamenefa Foundation and Fafaa Radio issues. 

This is the last act and straw that has disgraced the family to the extent never experienced by our forebears. The malevolent action has finally forced the noble and quiet Elders of the family to come out and assure the Fafaa Media Family and the glorious Duamenefa Foundation Members Worldwide, that the AmuGade Royal House is not a house of renegades and malcontents as our son Togbui Adamah III has shown through deed and intent, with the full support of people who should know better.  We are a disciplined family. We're therefore rendering our unconditional apologies to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors of the sister civic organs. The family condemns in no uncertain terms the actions of those Togbui Adamah III engaged in to disrupt and destroy equipments and properties of the Duamenefa Foundation. 

Duamenefa Foundation is a haven of tranquillity and is doing what the Savior Jesus Christ willed and blessed them to do. The Volta Region is therefore blessed by their being anchored here. For chiefs to join gangsters to disrupt the foundation's registration activities is unfortunate. The AmuGade Royal family regrets the actions by Togbui Adamah III and his crooks which has brought the good and revered name of ADAMAH into disrepute. 

One may be tempted to ask how come the family didn't speak earlier? As we all know and are aware of the practices of our people, attempts were made in the background to not be seen as washing the family's dirty linens in public, but failure became the ribbons we wear today on our chests. Madam Jane Duwor of blessed memory partnered Togbui Atsu Awuaba V to control the excesses of Togbui Adamah III, but to no avail. Togbui Atsiane IV was with this group in the beginning but you can see for yourself his role today in trying to destabilise Somè and the Duamenefa Foundation in collaboration with the Togbui Adamah III. 

Togbui Atsiane IV has therefore become the right hand man to Togbui Adamah III in their nefarious activities across Somè, most particularly the Kpodzeadzie Adamah II property issue. Isn't it so regrettable that a mere registration of your own subjects in a benevolent organisation could lead to anarchy and mayhem? It is said that darkness and light has nothing in common. This is very true. Togbui Adamah III without good counselling has become the darkness over Somè. He is exposed from every flank and he's as naked like a day old chick. 

What are the activities of Duamenefa Foundation? And are those activities meant to destabilise our communities, and what is it that the foundation is undertaking which is an affront to the constitution of Ghana? 

We don't think there's anything wrong with their activities in the region. Duamenefa Foundation can therefore enjoy patronage across Ghana and especially, the Ketu North and South Regions. Togbui Agboka, any other Chief(s) or Community leader(s) have the right to invite any organisation(s) of repute to come to their domain to conduct any meaningful exercise designed to make life bearable for and to the citizens of Somè, something which Togbui Adamah III and his stooges have failed to do.

And if the narrative of the errand man who was seen with the matchet should be pursued, then Togbui Adamah III should be invited or arrested to face the law. It is his word against a hoodlum's. The two should answer for their crime against the Duamenefa Foundation, the Somè State and the State of Ghana. 

The AmuGade Royal House can once again say that they have always advised Togbui Adamah III to be of good behaviour, to behave with decorum, but he has always chosen the path of villainy and greed and childishness. He seems not to know the value of the royal office he holds. He thinks gangsterism and intimidating poor folks is the appropriate thing to be doing. 

At the right time the Kingmakers of the AmuGade and Hor gates will announce to the good people of Somè the remedy to cure this nuisance and cancer that has affected the Somè Dua and the Adamah Family. 

The Adamah II Kpodzeadzie Property 

Sometimes, it is not only greed and vindictiveness but pure evil that enters the mind of Togbui Adamah III against anything that is good. The family is not spared either.

There is a case or report made to the Agbozume District Police Service as far back as the 7th of January 2021 by the Fiafofo Nash Doe Adamah against Togbui Adamah III and the Gbafa-Deku family. Togbui Adamah III ordered Dollar Gbafa to destroy the pillars being mounted in a wall that was being built around the Kpodzeadzie property. The hoodlums removed the styluses from the holes dug and left the concrete to waste. 

The Agbozume Police when contacted anytime as to what is happening to the report will only ask you to go ahead and continue with the project. Earlier, a threat by Togbui Adamah III to engage gangs to beat up anyone who goes near the Adamah II house was also reported to the same Police at Agbozume. And finally when the Adamah II family realized the feet dragging of the Agbozume Police, a report was made to the Divisional Command of Police at Denu-Tokor. The files of the case are gathering dust at the Command Office. 

Togbui Adamah III believed he could always get away with evil until this Duamenefa Foundation issue. The AmuGade Royal House will be in full support should the case be made to go to the proper forum for redress and impunity punished. 

As is with the case of the Duamenefa Foundation, Dollar Gbafa-Deku also stated categorically that he and some others including Veronica Gbafa, Francis Gbafa, Dzaka and Agbosushie were ordered by Togbui Adamah III to cause the destruction, and that they were doing his bidding. This action and audio was also captured electronically. This is in the report to the Police. 

How the Agbozume Police could close their eyes to the grievances of the Adamah II household and look on unperturbed while the project stalled for about a year shouldn't be surprising any longer compared to what is going on with a benevolent and powerful media house like the Fafaa Radio and the sister Duamenefa Foundation. Sadly, the Police in Agbozume and Denu-Tokor are seemingly not ready to do the needful by prosecuting crime and get impunity curtailed. 

Somè Queenmother issue. 

The Somè Traditional Area is without a Paramount Queenmother.

It is the right and duty of the Hor Royal House to select one for the Adamah Royal House, and get her installed according to a Roadmap sanctioned by the Judicial Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs. 

The Roadmap as agreed on before the burial of the departed Togbui Hor II, and succession of Togbui Adamah III made it clear that the Queenmother shall be nominated by the Hor gate, and coming from the Hor Gate. 

Why this has not been done till today is a marvel, because the Hor gate, with its Head of Family, are aware of this requirement in the Roadmap sanctioned by the Judicial Committee of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs. The inability to install the Queenmother is also due to the greed and the vicious ambition of the same incorrigible Togbui Adamah III to bypass the laid down processes and thereby tried to enstool his elder sister Abigail Mary Adaku into the seat as the Queenmother of The Somè Traditional Area. 

This is sacrilegious and unheard-of. Togbui Adamah III wanted to have a brother and a sister, siblings from the same loins and womb, to be the King and Queenmother of Somè. 

Meetings upon meetings took place and the Elders of the AmuGade Royal House insisted that the lawful thing must be done. Abigail Mary Adaku cannot become the Queenmother of Somè, or somebody having any official title as regards the Somè Paramountcy. 

Abigail Adaku, also just like his brother has started holding herself out fraudulently as Mama Adaku I, something the AmuGade Royal House knows nothing about. The impunity of these siblings must be curtailed for the good of Somè. Recognizing Abigail Adaku is the bastardy the AmuGade Royal House will not encourage. Togbui Adamah III claims he has enstooled her sister already. 

That is his joke he is entitled to!

The absence of a duly installed and legitimate Queenmother for the people of Somè from the Hor Gate is not helping matters in Somè as far as women's affairs, and to a larger extent children are concerned.

Conclusion 

The AmuGade Royal House once again is declaring to all and sundry in Somè and beyond, all State institutions, Private Businesses like the Seven Seas Salt Company and the Ketu North and South Municipal Assemblies that the previous 20th day of September, 2019 DISCLAIMER from the AmuGade Royal House (herein attached) that the document still holds. 

Anyone or entity that is doing any business(es) regarding the AmuGade Royal House Lands does so at their own risk. 

The AmuGade Royal House wishes to assure all and sundry of its goodwill in the discharge of its mandate to the loyal people of Somè.

THE NPP BIGOTRY

KWAMI ALORVI’S LAMENTATIONS. GHANA’S NATIONAL TRAGEDY: TRIBAL BIGOTRY, ETHNOCENTRISM AND THE SILENCE OF VOICES OF CONSCIENCE

The last straw that broke the camel’s back: “I’ll lead Kumasi people to demonstrate if the Finance Minister makes a mistake and captures Keta Sea Defence project in the 2022 budget.”

The moment Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, aka NAPO, as Minister of Education, appointed all the top officials of his Ministry and related agencies from his own tribe, I was left in no doubt that, the Minister was ethnocentric. When NAPO was Minister of Education from 2017 to 2020, the Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES); Deputy Director General of the GES; Chairman of the GES Council; Executive Secretary of the National Teaching Council (NTC); PRO of the Ministry of Education; Head of the Public Relations Unit of the GES; in addition to a Deputy Minister of Education appointed by the President; were, and still are, from the same ethnic group as NAPO.

Nobody should get me wrong and jump to the erroneous conclusion that I dislike Ashanti people. I had explained in an earlier article that many of my friends in school and places where I had worked, have been from Ashanti Region, and that I admire how intelligent, industrious and persevering they are. The Executive Secretary of the NTC for instance, was my Ashanti Regional Chairman and later the Vice President of NAGRAT when I was the President. He was a pleasant person to work with. His intelligence and dedication to the cause of the teacher led me to support him in his bid to succeed me as President against an Eʋe brother from North Tongu, where I hail from. The Deputy Director General of the GES was not only my University mate, but both of us were student leaders; he as a Hall Secretary and I, the President of another Hall. I had also worked with him as Assistant Secretary to the GES Council when I was NAGRAT President. The GES Council Chairman was the Deputy Director General, and later Director General of the GES under whom I worked as a teacher and President of NAGRAT. All these people, no doubt, possess the requisite knowledge and competencies to earn them the positions they occupy. So my reference is not with any bad intention.

My argument, however, is that, many people from other tribes also possess the knowledge and competencies these people have, and if Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh had no hatred for other tribes and was prepared and willing to live and work with them, he would have been minded to appoint them.

My perception of NAPO as ethnocentric was confirmed when I heard him vow to lead Ashantis to demonstrate if the Finance Minister, as he put it on an Accra based Radio station, “makes a mistake and captures the Keta Sea Defence Project in the 2022 budget” because the area is the stronghold of the NDC. NAPO’s comment is distasteful, irrational, irritating and irresponsible to say the least. If this is not tribal bigotry, I wonder what it is. Haven’t previous Finance Ministers of NDC made provisions in their budgets for NAPO’s stronghold? Which Finance Minister made budgetary provision for Kejetia market and rehabilitation of the Kumasi Airport in NAPO’s stronghold? Was it not an NDC Finance Minister?

Didn’t the Minister of Works and Housing, Hon. Asenso Boakye assure Ghanaians at his press conference and in Parliament, that he had discussed the phase 2 of the Sea Defence project with the Finance Minister and that, my brothers and sisters in Keta, Ketu South and Anloga areas would be provided for in the budget? So when the Finance Minister “forgot” to capture same in the budget after his assurance, what crime have the Eʋes and the Minority Caucus in Parliament committed by demanding that the Finance Minister make amendments to cater for the project?

Rather than threaten a demonstration, couldn’t NAPO have lobbied the Finance Minister for allocations in the budget for his Kumasi flood victims too? Is lobbying not part of the roles of an MP in addition to his legislative duties? Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh should know that, if he has to destroy other tribes to become successful, destruction will definitely be the ladder to the first floor of his success.

ANTECEDENTS

1. Didn’t the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia fly to West Mamprusi in September 2017 to present Ghc100,000 cash and other relief items to flood victims?
2. Didn’t he present
   relief items to flood victims in Wa and other areas in Upper West in the same year? Didn’t the alacrity with which the Vice President acted even cause him to include expired goods in the items presented?
3. On 29th June 2020, didn’t NADMO travel to Katanga, Republic of Togo, to donate relief items including fishing nets, mosquito nets, fridges and outboard motors to Ghanaian fire disaster victims? These Ghanaians to whom the relief items were presented, were later prevented by a deterrent military occupational force from crossing the border to register for the 2020 elections because, in the imagination of the powers that be, these fire victims had miraculously metamorphosed into “Togolese Eʋes” who were once accused by the Father of the nation, of “voting one way” in elections.
4. Were we not in this country, when on 22nd July 2018, the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, again led a delegation including his wife and the Defence Minister to far away Freetown, Sierra Leone, to donate relief items such as sugar, maize, medicine, mosquito nets, mattresses and generator sets to landslide disaster victims? Didn’t he even add a cash of US$1 million to the relief items and promise our brethren in Sierra Leone, that fund raising would be organised in Ghana to raise additional funds to support the victims when his delegation returned to Ghana?
   If the President of the Republic and the Vice President could extend their magnanimity and love for humanity across borders to victims in far away Sierra Leone, why can’t the same thing be done to Eʋe citizens within the borders of their own country? Or is it because we are Eʋes who “vote one way” in elections? These tidal wave victims are the same people whose livelihood has been destroyed by the continued closure of the Aƒlao border for close to two years now. Why such level of naked hatred for a whole tribe?

CATASTROPHIC SILENCE OF THE VOICES OF CONSCIENCE

In all these discriminations and expressions of hatred targeted at a particular tribe, the voices of conscience which used to be vociferous in the past, have all kept a catastrophic silence. Where are the true followers of Mohammed? (Peace be upon him). Where are our Christian Men of God? Wither hideth the “Wise men” of my former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey? “Nyansafoɔ ee, mo wɔ hen o o?” My Moderator, why have you disappointed me, your Presbyterian congregant, and my uncle, a retired Presbytery Chairman of the Dangme-Tongu Presbytery like this?

I have not forgotten the derogatory remarks made against my tribesmen in the past. The President of the Republic himself, the Father of the Nation, our father, had earlier told the Paramount Chief of Aƒlao, Torgbui Fiti, to complete an E-block school in Aƒlao himself if he was dissatisfied with the undue delay. This was said in the presence of an experienced Radio/TV host, Kwame Sefa Kayi, who himself is an indigene of the Anlo State. He appeared intimidated and all he could do was throw himself back in his seat, giggle and say in Twi, “Ɔsee, w’abrɛ” (He said he is tired). Torgbui’s appeal to the Minister of Education through the Minority MPs to help complete the school for students to use in February 2022 was politically labelled, and tribally painted as an ultimatum. No doubt, mindful of this embarrassing comment, Torgbui Fiti has restrained himself from making any request to government on the Sea Defence project to protect his people. Who knows if he would be told again to complete that one too himself?

The National Chairman of the ruling party, had also at one time, referred to our revered Paramount Chief of Asogli, a former President of the National House of Chiefs and an accomplished Entrepreneur, as a “palmwine tapper. Jesus Christ! Strangely, no Eʋe in the NPP Government, no Chief in and outside Eʋenyigbadzi, not even the Houses of Chiefs, saw anything wrong with the derogatory comments made by the National Chairman so as to call him to order because, Torgbe Aƒede is an Eʋe.

In the tidal waves disaster, we did not again hear our Eʋe brethren in NPP speak against the neglect of their brothers and sisters, and the threat of demonstration by Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh if provision is made in the budget to protect their people from the destructive tidal waves. A detribalized Eʋe, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Aƒenyo Markin, MP for Efutu, whose father hails from Tsiame in the tidal waves disaster area, and who Eʋes in Efutu have been voting for to go to Parliament, even pointed his left finger at his origin (Dziƒenyigba), and falsely and shamelessly accused his brethren of bringing the disaster upon themselves through sand winning. He even tried to prove his provocative lie about his father’s brethren, with a picture of sand winning in coastal Freetown, Sierra Leone, as an occurrence in Keta. Indeed, Hon. Aƒenyo Markin’s conduct is like a matter of the axe and the forest. The forest is shrinking, is being destroyed by the axe, yet trees in the forest continue to see the axe as one of their own; because the handle of the axe is made of wood. My Eʋe compatriots in Efutu, are you listening?

Oh, oh, my Eʋe brethren in government and NPP, why have thou forsaken us? Hon. John Peter Amewu, Hon. Kofi Dzamesi, Dr. Archibald Letsa, oh, where are you, and why have you all abandoned your people? My younger brothers, Pius Hadzide, Richard Ahiagba and Perry Okudzeto, why have you all hidden your faces from us in this trying moment?

Tears of pain roll down my cheeks whenever I see and hear Hon. Dzifa Abla Gomashie battling it all alone, with some support coming only from her colleague MPs from the minority side. Our ancestors, and Creator Mawuga Sogbolisa, Krɔnkrɔn Asaasewura Nyankopɔn, are grieving in pain against you for betraying your people. If however, you share the pain with us, yet the system is suffocating and constraining you from speaking, lest you lose your job and daily bread, then pardon me for calling you out; “Mawuga Sogbolisa ne tu tsi na mi sia.” Maybe, fear has coiled in your stomach like a python for which reason you have all decided to keep a dignified silence. You are like men dressed in a three-piece suit, walking under a hot tropical sun, yet shivering with cold. May our Ancestors recognise your predicament and grant you pardon.

TIMES THE VOICES OF CONSCIENCE WERE ACTIVE
If such derogatory comments about our Eʋe Chiefs, and hate speech against Eʋes like the threat by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh were directed against other tribes by an Eʋe or NDC person, by now the whole media, youth groups, traditional authorities, the learned men in law and academia, political party attack dogs and the clergy would all have been mobilized to the battle front. John Mahama and the entire NDC party would have been banned from that traditional area until rams are sacrificed and libation poured with Aromatic Schnapps and Kasapreko Biegya bitters to appease the gods, ancestors, chiefs and people of that tribe.

National Media Commission would have issued a statement castigating the media house and the host that interviewed that Eʋe or NDC person; National Peace Council would have condemned and declared it a threat to national peace and security; Presbyterian Church would have asked the “Nyansafoɔ” to take over the reigns of government from the “men and women with no wisdom; and Women Aglow, would have held an All Night Vigil at the Independence Square, to exorcise the demons and principalities disturbing the peace and unity of our nation.

Not long ago, NDC MP, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, was doing his oversight job as Ranking Member of Parliamentary Committee on Health. He challenged government to provide funding sources for its “Agenda 111” program. A Moderator of my Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah MANTEY, said the MP and all those who demanded sources of funding for the hospital project were possessed by witchcraft, and needed to be exorcised by fake Prophets. In all this, Presbyterian Church of Ghana leadership has been dead silent. No admonition of Moderators. The Former Moderator, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel MARTEY had earlier referred to people in NDC as lacking wisdom. He posed a rhetorical question, “Nyansafoɔ, mo wɔ hen?” (Where are the Wise people?). The Voices of Conscience were awake then. Anyway, the only difference is an “R” in MARTEY and the “N” in MANTEY. The value might thus be the same.
It is sad that all voices of conscience, who hitherto, had been active, have now gone on sick leave because they have toothache, waiting to recover and spring back when another political dispensation regains the reigns of power.
My memory is not so short to forget how the NDC Regional Secretary for Ashanti, Kwame Zu, was roasted alive by almost all the now loudly silent Voices of Conscience, when he made an unfortunate comment about a tribe benefiting from potable water provided by John Mahama’s government. Hell broke loose, the Devil came down in its full regalia, and John Mahama and the NDC were declared persona non grata in that land. The atmosphere was tense and only a spark was required to produce a conflagration. Peaceful John Mahama, respecter of our chieftaincy tradition, had to send a delegation to quench the inferno. Peace was restored only after sacrifices were made to appease the gods, ancestors, chiefs and people of the area.
I can also vividly recount the time NDC’s Kobby Akyeampong, in an encounter with the late Sir John (may his soul rest in peace), described the latter’s posturing as reminiscent of a “Kokoase Krakye”. The whole might of Ashanti, including the youth, supported by the media twisted Kobby’s comment as insulting the whole of Ashanti tribe and its revered Royals. Coming from the group of “unwise men,” Kobby had to render an apology to bring the issue to rest. The furore, cacophony and condemnations that greeted John Mahama’s “Boot for Boot” and “Do or Die” comments from the Voices of Conscience, including the National Peace Council, are still fresh in our minds.
But what do we see today? When a Minister of Food and Agriculture mocked many ethnic groups of the five regions of the north, that it was his “Planting for Food and Jobs” program, that provided the means for the people to transition from constructing their houses with clay to cement, and from roofing them with thatch to corrugated roofing sheets, the whole country was as silent as the grave yard. Some Voices of Conscience even tried to recap the comment to make it appear inoffensive. Same was the insult of the Asogli Chief by the National Chairman of the ruling party. NAPO’s hate speech, the latest in the series, is still in traffic jam yet to reach the ears of the “Voices of Conscience” who were so cacophonous in the recent past.
Perhaps, we may not blame the haters of a particular tribe or political dispensation as we would those silent over the irritating abuses. For, as Albert Einstein said, “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”

The opportunity awaits all those Voices of Conscience to regain their lost voices. A fair, just and united society is not the one in which wrong is wrong, and right is right, depending on who is, or the time involved. Let our Chiefs, Political Actors in government, Clergy and Regulatory Bodies take a cue from the current IGP and move to deescalate the tension engulfing our governance system.

I conclude with these spoken words of one of Africa’s greatest leaders, Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia: “Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who should have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that, has made it possible for evil to triumph.”
